Samsung Engineering signs UAE Shah Gas Project - $1.5 billion USD plant, package #4 ¡¦ Only Korean contractor to achieve work in complex - Selected as interface manager for $10 bil USD complex
[Abu Dhabi, UAE] On July 12th, Samsung Engineering signed a contract worth $1.5 billion USD for the Shah gas project package #4) from Abu Dhabi Gas Development Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of UAE¡¯s national oil company, Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC).
The signing ceremony was held at Takreer Tower in the Sheik Khalifa Energy Complex with the attendance of Abu Dhabi Gas Development Co. CEO Mr. Saif Ahmed Al Ghafli and ADNOC E&P Director Mohamed Butti Al Qubaisi, Tae Kyun Kwon - Ambassador of South Korea as well as Samsung Engineering CEO Park Ki-Seok and 40 other officials.
Samsung Engineering was notified last April of the $1.5 billion USD award by Abu Dubai Gas Development, in which Samsung Engineering was the only Korean company selected for this project in the pool of European firms such as Italy¡¯s Saipem and Spain's TR.
Samsung Engineering will head all engineering, procurement, construction and pre-commissioning on a lump-sum-turn key basis to build an offsite and utilities facility for the 1 billion cubic feet per day gas development complex. The facility is in the Shah region, 180 km southwest of Abu Dhabi and is set for mechanical completion on August 2013.
Samsung Engineering CEO Park Ki-Seok stated at the ceremony, ¡°Samsung Engineering has proven capability thanks to our ability to handle $10 billion in projects and along with our reputable project performance in the Middle East.¡± ¡°Our accumulated experience in the Utilities & Offsites and gas sector, such as with the on-going Takreer Utilities & Offsites package, means we are confident we will complete the project successfully.¡±
Samsung Engineering was also selected as interface manager and coordinator of the $10 billion USD gas development project from ADNOC. ¡°Selecting Samsung Engineering for this role speaks for itself. It truly demonstrates the confidence and expectations our client has for our project management skills," noted a spokesperson for Samsung Engineering.
