Increasing automobile ride and heavy traffic have placed Korea on the list of the OECD nations with high concentration of dust particles, a harmful air pollutant. Korea also suffers from high nitrogen dioxide.
Keenly aware of this dire situation, Samsung Engineering has been operating the Air Quality Mobile Monitoring System since 1997 to investigate and study nitrogen pollution in the atmosphere of municipal areas and its field sites.
The air quality mobile monitoring system, made out of a 35 passenger bus, makes long-term study of carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, dust particles, ozone, sulfurous acid gas, lead, wind direction, wind speed and humidity, and thus is put into good use to measure changes in pollution and monitor pollutants. |

Samsung Engineering developed the Bio Sensor system, which enables field measurement of total nitrogen. An upgrade of Ecosens, the first portable bioSensor in the world developed in 2004 for nitrate measurement, this device allows field measurement of the concentration of total nitrogen and nitrate, restricted substances causing eutrophication and other environmental pollution, without needs for cumbersome preparation.
Higher precision and shorter measurement time, compared with conventional total nitrogen measurement systems, are additional benefits of this new device.
With its light weight and compact size, it offers the essence of field measurement so that it may replace conventional lab sized environmental measurement devices and chemical sensors. In addition, it promises expansive application in the future technology of pollutant diagnosis and field monitoring of harmful substances. |
